Story: Shingeki no Kyojin or Attack on Titan is about a group of friends who enlist in their city’s military force. Humanity is on the brink of survival due to titanic humanoid creatures that slaughter and devour humans with reasons unbeknownst to humanity. This anime has a dark premise and is not for the faint of heart. For me, the plot was really intriguing, be prepared for twists and turns.

Characters: AoT has a large cast with primarily three main characters; Eren, Mikasa, and Armin. Some people may think the characters’ personalities are too extreme but given the circumstances they are in, the emotions are believable and quite realistic. The side characters are also quite like-able with one in particular a fan favorite.

Captain Levi

“The difference between your decision and ours is experience. But you don’t have to rely on that. Choose! Believe in yourself or believe in the survey corps and me.” — Captain Levi

Animation: The animation was produced by Wit Studio a relatively new studio in the anime world. In fact, AoT was their first production and what a way to enter the industry! I like the art style of the humans and setting. The titans, on the other hand, well let’s just say they look creepy.

Soundtrack: The music was composed by Hiroyuki Sawano composed the music, and although I’m no expert I have to admit the opening theme is pretty epic.

Overall: I really enjoyed AoT. Although there is an aura of despair throughout the episodes the characters inspire hope to not only each other but to the viewers as well. I would recommend Attack on Titan to anyone unfamiliar with this anime, it may just inspire you to defeat the most titanic obstacles in your life.
